Sally Field, BEA 2018, and the “C” Word
The first thing I noticed upon entering the Javits Center’s #BEA2018 was the above poster of a young Sally Field, circa The Cannonball Run. “She must have a book coming out,” I thought, and, being Master of the Obvious, I was right: “In Pieces,” Sally Field’s autobiography, debuts on September 18th, 2018 through Hachette’s Grand Central Publishing imprint.
I was then surprised to see Sally Field trending on Facebook later this afternoon. “She’s getting press about this book already?” But here, I was wrong. It was due to another Celebrity Tweet of This Week:
I like Samantha Bee a lot, but she is flat wrong to call Ivanka a cunt.
Cunts are powerful, beautiful, nurturing and honest.

In case you didn’t know, this is in response to Samantha Bee’s earlier description of Ivanka Trump as a “feckless cunt,” on her TBS show “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.”
Response seems divided between those who feel that Field went too far, and those who applaud Field’s unorthodox definition of a word that’s normally considered so vulgar it’s referred to as the “C” word.
Whether this tweet will have the damning effect on Field’s book that Roseanne Barr’s did on her show remains to be seen. And so far Samantha Bee remains on the air, though two companies have pulled out of her show after she publicly apologized. On Twitter.
