More Dirt

So I go to Hollywood for a few days to handle some business and what happens? Motley Crue’s lead singer Vince Neil signs a honking big book deal.

The indispensable Publishers Marketplace reports that “Vince Neil’s LEWD, CRUED, AND HEAVILY TATTOOED, telling the unfiltered story from the band’s most controversial member, including the real reason for their initial breakup, the impact of his daughter’s death, and changing band dynamics, in addition to all the insane stories of rock’n’roll excess” was sold to Ben Greenberg at Grand Central in a “major deal” at auction by agents Kirby Kim and David Vigliano at Vigliana Associates.

In Publishers Marketplace lingo, a “major deal” is anything worth $500,000 and up.

I’ve been asking around, but so far I haven’t been able to learn who the co-author is. It’ll be interesting to see how this book turns out. Lord knows I love me some Crue. But with The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band defining the template for heavy metal books and with drummer Tommy Lee and bassist Nikki Sixx already penning their own solo tales, is there room for still more versions of the snorting ants story? The tragic passing of Neil’s child certainly adds a different element to this book, but will it be enough? And has Neil gained any new insights or perspective on his drunk driving accident since he described it in 2001 for The Dirt?

We’ll have to wait and see.
