Hope for the Slush Pile Afterall

There is an interesting article The Daily Telegraph that I learned about via the excellent MobyLives website. It seems that some major British publishers are returning to the slush pile with renewed interest. “Publishers are increasingly alert to sources of undiscovered gems that in the past might have slipped through the net,” the article states. Of course the deluge of aspiring authors is just as bad over there as here in America. One endeavor was a get published contest where “‘We invited submissions – first chapters with short synopses – and were overwhelmed by the response,” Maria Rejt says. “We got 46,000 in six weeks.'”
